The platform

One layer across the entire trade relationship

A spaza shop, a wholesaler, a driver and a municipality are four different businesses with four different systems — usually none of them talking to each other. Tengar builds the layer that connects them.

Core product

THENGA

The intelligent operating system for the township economy.

THENGA is an offline-first B2B platform. Wholesalers publish live catalogues; retailers order against them; the order desk handles fulfilment; settlement closes the loop. Every interaction is written locally first and synchronised second, because a shop that cannot trade when the network drops has a business problem, not a software problem.

It runs as a progressive web app and ships as an Android application, so it works on the hardware a retailer or driver can actually afford.

🔁

The four-tier data path

  • Local first — IndexedDB (RxDB/Dexie) is the working copy
  • Cloud sync — Firestore, with Supabase as fallback
  • Sync queue — offline writes flush on reconnect, with retry
  • Cache broadcast — change events keep every open screen honest

In practice: a retailer in Sebokeng with one bar of signal can still complete a sale, and it will reach the wholesaler when signal returns.

Product suite

Three products that complete the layer

Trade is not only ordering. Shoppers need power and signal, orders need to arrive, and money needs to move without a correspondent bank in the middle.

📶

KasieConnect

Managed community WiFi built for the shop next door — spaza businesses, hair salons, repair shops — rather than cafés or offices. Sold as a connectivity service.

  • Recurring revenue model for community operators
  • Voucher-based access for walk-in customers
  • Node economics modelled per site

Connectivity service only. KasieConnect is not a lending or banking product.

🚚

ThengaDrop

Last-mile delivery generated by real trade orders, plus standalone courier work. Costed per corridor rather than estimated nationally.

  • Task-linked to a confirmed order where possible
  • QR-verified proof of delivery
  • Transparent driver earnings

Transport is ~59% of SA logistics cost at R300–R350 per township collection trip — delivery economics decide whether a corridor works.

💠

ZArka

A rand-pegged digital token on the Stellar network, used for B2B settlement between wholesalers and retailers where conventional reconciliation is too slow.

  • Near-instant settlement, low value-transfer cost
  • RSA-compliant settlement partner relationship
  • Wallet and balance UI inside THENGA

A payment rail, not a bank deposit product. Not offered as savings or investment.

Who it serves

Built around how each side actually gets paid

Retailers — spaza shops and taverns

You order from wholesalers you already buy from, at prices you can see before you commit. Your margin is yours: set a target profit on each line and see what you actually make. Orders survive a dead network. Cash on delivery, card, EFT and mobile wallet are all supported because no single method wins in this market.

Wholesalers — suppliers and distributors

Publish once, sell everywhere. Import supplier price lists by CSV with AI-assisted parsing that understands pack sizes and variants. Track sell-through, reorder on forecast, and settle through B2B banking or ZArka. Your retailer's compliance status is visible to you, so you know who will pass a funding assessment.

Drivers — taxi and delivery operators

Gig-linked work with clear task notification and route instruction. QR verification settles the delivery without a signature dispute. Earnings are visible in real time, because an opaque payout is the single biggest reason drivers leave platforms.

Public sector — municipalities and funders

A verified view of registered, licensed and funded businesses in a corridor, plus the compliance status that funding programmes actually assess. Built to support economic development reporting rather than to replace municipal systems.
